Watch Video: Kohli Involved in Heated Exchange With Umpire During RCB vs KKR Match, Throws Ball Onto The Pitch in Frustration
Playing his final match as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli lost his cool when umpire Virender Sharma declared a leg before call against Rahul Tripathi not out. Bowling the seventh over of the innings, Yuzvendra Chahal rapped KKR Rahul Tripathi on the pads, which led to a huge appeal, but umpire Sharma, who had a rather ordinary match, did not flinch.

As the entire RCB bunch appeared in disbelief, Kohli, after consulting with Chahal and wicketkeeper batsman Srikar Bharat took the review. The DRS showed that the ball would go on to hit the stumps. It was three reds and Tripathi had to head back. The RCB unit erupted including Kohli, who gave a glare to Sharma.

Kohli smashed the ball on the ground and went up to umpire Sharma and expressed his disappointment. Chris Gaffaney, who was standing at square leg, quickly came near the pitch to intervene and asked Kohli to move on.
Notably, it was the third call from Sharma that had to be overturned. He had given Shahbaz Ahmed and Harshal Patel out during RCB’s innings but both the decisions were overturned after successful reviews.

The episode did not end there as Virender Sharma walked up to Virat Kohli after the 8th over to give his version of the proceedings. Kohli was seen sporting a laugh as he walked away after hearing out the umpire.
However, batting great Sunil Gavaskar, who was on-air during the match, defended umpire Sharma, saying he did not have the need to explain his decisions to Virat Kohli. “He doesn’t have to give an explanation. He has taken a call, right or wrong, it’s his call,” Gavaskar said.
