Massive blow to Pakistan: Star Opener set to miss India Clash, likely out of Champions Trophy 2025

Pakistan has suffered a significant setback ahead of their crucial Champions Trophy 2025 clash against India, as opener Fakhar Zaman is unlikely to travel with the team to Dubai. The left-handed batter sustained an injury during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand and is expected to be ruled out of the tournament.

Fakhar Zaman’s Injury

Zaman picked up the injury while fielding in Shaheen Afridi’s first over against New Zealand. Positioned at mid-off, he sprinted towards the boundary in an attempt to stop the ball but hurt his lower back in the process. Despite the injury, he briefly continued fielding but struggled when he came in to bat at No. 4. His discomfort was evident as he managed just 24 runs off 41 balls before being dismissed by Michael Bracewell.

Pakistan in a Must-Win Situation

After losing their first match against New Zealand, Pakistan now faces a do-or-die situation against arch-rivals India on February 23 at the Dubai International Stadium. A defeat would severely dent their chances of making it to the semifinals. Their third league match will be against Bangladesh, making the upcoming games crucial for their survival in the tournament.

While the ICC has yet to make an official announcement regarding Zaman’s status for the rest of the tournament, PCB sources suggest he is unlikely to play further matches. Pakistan, led by Mohammad Rizwan, will need to regroup quickly and find a solid replacement to keep their Champions Trophy hopes alive.
