Sopore Police Solve Major Theft Case, Arrest Five Suspects
On December 9, 2024, Sopore Police received a complaint from Fayaz Ahmad War of Warpora, regarding the theft of four cows from his cowshed. Acting promptly, a case (FIR No. 252/2024) was registered at Sopore Police Station under relevant legal sections.
Under the guidance of SP Sopore, Smt. Divya D-IPS, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed. The team included SHO PS Sopore, Insp. Ayaz Gellani, and IC PP Warpora, Insp. Yousuf ul Umar, and was led by SDPO Sopore, Shri Sarfaraz Bashir JKPS. The team launched an investigation to trace the culprits.
Through a mix of technical analysis and human intelligence, a suspect, Manzoor Ahmad War of Raj Mohalla Warpora, was apprehended. During questioning, Manzoor confessed to the crime, leading to the identification of four additional suspects:
- Mohammad Shafi Lone
- Bilal Ahmad Malik
- Ashiq Hussain Lone
- Mohammad Asif Bhat
Two cows were recovered from their possession, and a vehicle (JK15B 3463) used in the theft was also seized.
The suspects, hailing from Warpora and Bandipora, are habitual offenders with a history of thefts. Police expect further recoveries as the investigation progresses.
