Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Wednesday made light work of Australia bowlers, and as a result, he registered a couple of massive records. Babar scored 196 off 425 balls, which is now the the highest score by any captain in the fourth innings of a Test. The maverick batter achieved the feat on Day 5 of the second Test at the National Stadium, Karachi.
The stylish right-hander had earlier went past former Pakistan batter Younis Khan to register the highest score by a Pakistan player in fourth innings of a Test. Younis had scored an unbeaten 171 against Sri Lanka in 2015.

Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam broke the record for the highest fourth-innings score by a captain in Test cricket during Pakistan’s second match against Australia in Karachi on Wednesday.
Babar’s record-breaking knock came during Pakistan’s pursuit of the 506-run target set by Australia. He surpassed former England captain Michael Atherton’s unbeaten 185 against South Africa in 1995. Babar was eventually out for 196.

Babar Azam registered his highest Test score (196). His previous best was 143 against Bangladesh in 2020.
Babar Azam recorded the highest Test score for Pakistan in the fourth innings. He surpassed Younis Khan who notched up 171* against Sri Lanka in the year 2015.
Babar Azam has now also faced the most balls (425) for Pakistan in the last innings of a Test match. He surpassed Shoaib Malik’s number of 369 which he faced against Sri Lanka in 2006.
Babar Azam also registered the best score by a player in the fourth innings against Australia. He went past Kuma Sangakkara’s score of 192 against the Aussies in Hobart in 2007.
Babar Azam recorded the third-best Test score (196) by a Pakistani captain against Australia. Saleem Malik scored 237 and Javed Miandad 211 in 1994 and 1988 respectively.
Babar Azam also registered the third-best score (196) by a Pakistani captain in Tests in Karachi. Younis Khan scored 313 against Sri Lanka in 2009 and Javed Miandad 211 against Australia in 1988.
Shafique and Babar also scripted the second-highest partnership (228) for Pakistan in the fourth innings of a Test. Shan Masood and Younis Khan top the list for scoring 242 against Sri Lanka in 2015.
Babar’s score of 196 is the highest by a Pakistani player in the fourth innings in Pakistan. He leapfrogged Inzamam-ul-Haq’s score of 138* against Bangladesh in Multan in 2003.
Babar and Shafique also shared the most balls (520) for the third wicket partnership in the fourth innings.

Babur Azam played a super innings and scored 196 runs in the 506-run target set by Australia. Baber holds the record for most runs scored by a captain in a fourth inning. He overtook Michael Atherton (185 not out), Dan Bradman (173 not out), Ricky Ponting (156), virat kohli (141), Graeme Smith (154 not out) and Brian Lara (153 not out).
