IPL 2020: David Warner Reveals Why He Backed Abdul Samad To Bowl The Final Over Against Chennai Super Kings

David Warner, the skipper of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), has revealed as to why he chose young Indian all-rounder Abdul Samad to bowl the final over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On Matchday 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), SunRisers Hyderabad beat CSK by 7 runs as they grabbed their second win of IPL 2020.

One of the turning moments of the game came in the 19th over of the second innings, when Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the leader of SRH’s pace attack suffered an injury while trying to bowl the second ball of the over. He couldn’t bowl any further and David Warner had a decision to make as to who would complete Bhuvneshwar’s over. Warner eventually went with the risk of giving the leftover 5 balls to Khaleel Ahmed and going with the young Abdul Samad in the final over.

David Warner said, “I backed him (Samad) – I had no option. We tried to kill the game in the 19th over with Khaleel there with five balls to bowl. Could have given it to Abhishek, but Samad with his height and the way he bowled tonight, he had to bowl the last one.”
