“Pakistani People Love You”: Yograj Singh Criticizes Political Tensions, Urges India to Play ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has become a major topic of controversy, especially concerning India and Pakistan’s cricketing ties. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to host the prestigious tournament, but India has refused to play matches in Pakistan due to security concerns. This has led to a diplomatic standoff, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advocating for a hybrid model in which their matches are held at neutral venues.

While the ICC has reportedly approved this hybrid arrangement, which allows India to play its games in Dubai, the PCB has demanded a reciprocal approach. The PCB has suggested that they will not travel to India for ICC events until at least 2027, making their stance clear on equal treatment in cricket diplomacy.
Amid this drama, Yograj Singh, former cricketer and father of Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh, has made a bold statement. Speaking in an interview with Dainik Savera, he urged India to play in Pakistan and dismissed the security concerns as baseless. Yograj attributed the ongoing tensions to political agendas, stating that sports should not be influenced by such factors.
“When Pakistan opens its borders, it is an invitation of goodwill,” said Yograj. Drawing on his personal experiences, he described the warmth and hospitality shown by the Pakistani people, particularly toward visitors to places like Nankana Sahib, a significant religious site for Sikhs.

He emphasized the deep cultural and emotional bonds shared by the two nations, despite historical conflicts. Yograj firmly criticized the portrayal of security threats, arguing, “Why would Pakistani people want to harm Indian players? It is nonsense. This is a political narrative, not reality.”

Yograj’s statement also touched on the broader history of Indo-Pak relations. He controversially suggested that India played a role in instigating past conflicts, further blaming political systems for fueling hostility.
The Champions Trophy 2025 has thus become a symbolic battleground for sports diplomacy. While the ICC’s approval of a hybrid model offers a temporary solution, the PCB’s demand for similar treatment in all tournaments signals a potential long-term shift in cricketing dynamics between the two nations.
The debate continues, with voices like Yograj Singh advocating for a bridge of goodwill through sports, challenging entrenched political narratives that have long divided the neighboring nations.
