Babar, who had made his Pakistan debut in 2015, had started the series against South Africa at 837 rating points but moved up to 858 (ahead of Kohli) thanks to his brilliant 103 in the 1st match, but had then dropped to 852 points after scoring 32 in the second ODI in the weekly ratings.
This ended Virat Kohli’s 1258-day supremacy at the top spot in ICC ODI batting rankings. And by becoming the no.1 ODI batsman, Babar Azam became the fourth Pakistan batsman to do so, after Zaheer Abbas (1983-84), Javed Miandad (1988-89), and Mohammad Yousuf (2003).
Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Afridi have also made gains in the ODI rankings. While Fakhar has reached the seventh spot in ODIs, Afridi has jumped by four places to reach the 11th position.
