Petrol, Diesel Prices Break Another Record After Latest Hike Today- Check New Rates Here
Fuel prices jumped on Wednesday, October 20, to hit fresh all-time highs following a surge in global crude oil rates. In the national capital, petrol and diesel rates soared 35 paise to cost ₹ 106.19 and ₹ 94.92 per litre respectively, according to Indian Oil Corporation.
Petrol now costs 34 per cent more than the price at which aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel) is sold to airlines. ATF in Delhi costs ₹ 79,020.16 per kilo litre or roughly ₹ 79 per litre.
In Mumbai, a litre of petrol now costs ₹ 112.11, and diesel is sold at ₹ 102.89 per litre. Petrol prices in Chennai breached the ₹ 103 per litre-mark and is currently sold at ₹ 103.31 per litre. Among the four metro cities, fuel rates are the highest in Mumbai, according to the state-run oil refiner.

On Monday, a source told ANI that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recently raised concerns about the matter of pricing, supply and demand of oils to the major oil-producing countries.
“As crude oil prices rise internationally, the petroleum ministry has called on the energy ministries of many countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Russia and others,” the source told ANI.
Fuel prices in the country have been hovering at record levels on account of 41 increases in its retail rates between April and July this year. It fell on a few occasions but largely remained stable.
India is dependent on imports to meet nearly 85% of its oil needs and so benchmarks local fuel rates to international oil prices.
