Department of Horticulture issues guidelines for Orchardists in view of Heavy rainfall, Snowfall prediction by MeT

Director General Horticulture and Mission Director MiIDH and PMDP for Jammu and Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat has issued a set of guidelines for Orchardists to ensure that the predicted inclement weather conditions from 23rd to 25th October do no cause any damage to orchards.

The set of guidelines include:

  • Farmers are Advised to speedup harvesting of fruits and its proper storage.
  • Cleaning of drainage channels so that stagnation of water does not take place in orchards.
  • Proper support to the trees which were earlier damaged or uprooted due to last year snowfall.
  • Farmers to remain vigilant and in case of snowfall must visit their orchards periodically and shake trees so that snow does not accumulate on the limbs.
  • Farmers may also prefer to start pruning in their orchards where, in view of the harsh weather advisory.

However, the department of Horticulture retains that there is no need to panic. “However, there is no need of any panic and for further assistance pleas contact your nearest Horticulture Office or ofice of Chief Horticulture Oficer of the District,” says Ajaz Ahmad in an official statement.
