2nd ODI: Fakhar Zaman hits record-breaking inning after chasing 342 runs against South Africa

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman came up with a stunning single-handed assault in Johannesburg on Sunday but it was not enough for the Asian side during their steep chase of 342 against South Africa in the 2nd ODI of a 3-match series.

South Africa vs Pakistan, 2nd ODI: Highlights

Fakhar Zaman hit 193 off 155 balls, the highest score by a batsman batting second in ODI cricket as he lifted Pakistan out of trouble and gave quite a few nervy moments to the hosts. Zaman, who had become the first Pakistan cricketer to hit an ODI double hundred, missed an opportunity to emulate Rohit Sharma as he was run out unfortunately for 193 in the final over of the chase.

Questions are being asked of Quinton de Kock’s deliberate attempt to distract Fakhar Zaman, who was run out by a direct hit while he tried to complete a double in the final over. Zaman hit 10 sixes and 18 boundaries in a whirlwind knock, single-handed keeping Pakistan in the hunt.

There was no support from the rest of the Pakistan batsmen as the second-highest score during the chase was captain Babar Azam’s 31. As many as 5 Pakistan batsmen got out for single-digit scores while 8 of them failed to cross the 20-run mark in a steep chase of 342 loses by 17 runs.

Zaman kept his composure and hit boundaries at will against a strong South African bowling line-up but he was not able to get the job done.
