Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad created List A history by becoming the first-ever batter to hammer 43 runs and 7 sixes in 1 over. Gaikwad achieved the feat while opening the innings for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 quarterfinal against Uttar Pradesh.

Maharashtra opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was at his blistering best in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh and his unbeaten 220-run knock helped his side post 330 runs on the board in the allotted fifty overs. However, the best part of his knock came in the penultimate over of the innings as he smashed 43 runs off the bowling of Shiva Singh. In this particular over, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit seven consecutive sixes.
The fifth ball of the over turned out to be a no-ball, and the free-hit also disappeared for a six, and hence the did the unthinkable, taking 43 runs of the over.

The young opener became the second Indian batter after India captain Rohit Sharma to smash 16 sixes in a List A innings. Rohit achieved this feat while scoring 264 against Sri Lanka in an ODI.
Earlier this year, the Maharashtra batsman scored his first half-century in international cricket during the third T20I between India and South Africa at Visakhapatnam.
Gaikwad had played five T20Is, scoring 63 runs at a strike rate of 114.54 and averaging 12.6. His highest score was 23 against South Africa in the first match of the ongoing T20I series.
Gaikwad made his international debut against Sri Lanka in July 2021 and scored an 18-ball 21.
