Fans were in for a treat as Saqlain Mushtaq went head-to-head with Azam, considered one of the best batters in the world, during a training session. In the one-over clash, Babar was given a target of 12 runs. “It is a matter of honour for me that I am challenging the world’s number one batsman,” Mushtaq said in the video, before explaining the imaginary fielding positions to Babar.

Saqlain Mushtaq challanges Babar Azam to a one-over match

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on their official Twitter account in which the Pakistan interim coach Mushtaq challenges Babar to a one-over match.

“It is a matter of honour for me, that I am challenging the world’s number one batsman,” said Saqlain Mushtaq to Azam. “He has to score 12 runs in one over; an out will be given an out. I will tell him about the field [placement],” said the legendary former spinner.

Babar scores a single on his first shot and then hits the second ball close to the boundary. When the match’s umpire, Iftikhar Ahmed, informs him that he has only scored two runs, the captain is upset. Babar, it appears, wished for the umpire to mark a boundary in his favour.

Saqlain then talks to another player (who can’t be seen) about his strategy, telling him that Babar Azam is securely inside his crease. “I will have to bowl a bit wide to lure him out of his crease,” he added. Saqlain did what he said. Babar is caught in the trap, comes out of the crease, and edges one to the wicketkeeper. Saqlain asked Babar to treat the team to dinner after losing.

PAKISTAN  vs WEST INDIES 2021: Five West Indies tour members test positive for COVID-19

Officials from Cricket West Indies and the Pakistan Cricket Board will meet today to determine whether the current tour can continue, with a further three players and two members of the West Indies staff returning positive PCR tests.

Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein and Justin Greaves, along with assistant coach Roddy Estwick and physician Dr Akshai Mansingh all tested positive, and must remain in self-isolation for ten days, or until they return a negative result.

The members join Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers and Sheldon Cottrell who had already returned positive tests five days ago. It means just 11 of the 18 members of the tour are able to take the field for the third T20I scheduled for today, with Devon Thomas also out through a finger injury in the first match.

Pakistan have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, winning the first and second T20Is by 63 runs and nine runs respectively. Chase, Mayers and Cottrell were in isolation before the first match of the tour.
