Aadhaar cardholders can check whether their card number is genuine or not with the help of various online services offered by UIDAI through its online portal. This service is often used by residents to verify the identity of the workers. Below Kashmirnews.in has provided  a step-by-step guide to check whether your Aadhaar card number is genuine or fake.

In the tweet the UIDAI said that not all 12-digit numbers are Aadhaar, warning citizens against fraudsters. In the tweet, the Aadhaar issuing authority said, “All 12-digit numbers are not Aadhaar. It is recommended that the Aadhaar should be verified before accepting it as identity proof.

Here’s how to check if an Aadhaar number is genuine or not:
Step 1: Visit the official Aadhaar website  resident.uidai.gov.in and select ‘Aadhaar Verify’ services.
Step 2: Enter the Aadhaar Number or Virtual ID (VID)
Step 3: Enter the captcha given and click on send OTP or enter TOTP.
The OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number for the given Aadhaar number or VID.
  • If the Aadhaar Number is correct then a new page will open with the Aadhaar number along with details like name, state, age, gender etc.
  • If your mobile number is not registered with the Aadhaar, then you can visit the nearest Permanent Aadhaar Centre (PAC).

According to the UIDAI’s Office Memorandum, the Aadhar cardholder can update his name only twice on the Aadhar card. Apart from this, Aadhar cardholders can update the date of birth and gender only once in their lifetime.
