Popular tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded -6.5°C and -7.6°C, respectively. The coldest temperatures in the valley were reported in higher-altitude areas, with Shopian and Larnoo leading the freeze.

Jammu Region:

In contrast to the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu region experienced relatively milder conditions. The city of Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1°C, while Katra, a key pilgrimage site, saw 6.1°C. However, higher-altitude areas like Banihal and Bhaderwah recorded colder temperatures at 1.2°C and 0.9°C, respectively. Padder, in the remote parts of Jammu, dipped to -4.3°C, showcasing the region’s diverse climatic conditions.

Ladakh Region:

The Ladakh region, known for its harsh winters, recorded the coldest temperatures in the region. Drass, often referred to as the second coldest inhabited place on Earth, plummeted to a bone-chilling -22.7°C, making it the coldest location in the region today. Kargil and Leh also experienced severe cold, with minimum temperatures of -14.5°C and -12.5°C, respectively.

Overview:

The freezing temperatures across these regions are a stark reminder of the harsh winters typical of this time of year. The cold wave is expected to persist, with temperatures likely to drop further in the coming days.
