SETBACK For India! Star Pacer Injured Ahead Of Asian Games 2023, Umran Malik Likely To Be Named As Replacement
A star Indian pacer who was named in the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led squad for the Asian Games 2023 is all set to miss the multi-sporting event scheduled to take place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou from September 19 to October 28. According to a report, the 24-year-old will be replaced by Umran Malik.
The Indian men’s team will first take the field on October 3 for the last eight matches, but ahead of that, India has suffered a big blow as star pacer Shivam Mavi, who has played six T20Is for the Indian team so far, suffered an injury a few days ago and is all set to miss the continental games.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the nature of Mavi’s injury is not known, but the BCCI will be picking his replacement in the coming days as he is unlikely to get fit in time.
Indian pacer Umran Malik, who was last seen in action against the West Indies during the five-match T20I series, is likely to be picked as Mavi’s replacement for the multi-sporting event. As per the report, the selectors were initially keen to send Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur, who was kept among the standby players in place of Mavi, but the Vidarbha pacer has also injured his back.
VVS Laxman will be coaching the second-string Indian team in the Asian Games 2023 and will have Sariaj Bahutule as bowling coach and Munish Bali as fielding coach.
Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams are all set to take part in the Asian Games 2023, which are set to take place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou from September 19 to October 8. While the men’s team will play under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad because of the unavailability of all first-team players due to the ODI World Cup 2023, the women’s side will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. But due to her two-match ban, Harman will not play in the first two matches for the Women in Blue and will only be seen in action if India qualifies for the final.
