Petrol and diesel prices continue to rise to record-high levels after latest hike today again
New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices on Wednesday (October 27) climbed to record high levels across the country after rates were increased considerably again after two days of pause. Petrol price was hiked by 31-35 paise per litre and diesel by 33-37 paise a litre. It is important to note that a huge rise in Brent crude prices touching a high of over $84 a barrel propelled pump prices in India to new highs.
The boiling auto fuel prices have made petrol costlier by approximately Rs 36.35 per litre and diesel by about Rs 29 since 4 May 2020 a day after the results of five assembly polls were announced. Experts are of the view that a further surge in crude oil prices may put pressure on the government to slash taxes, which may adversely impact revenues and spending.
Following today’s hike, petrol prices were increased by 35 paise and diesel by 35, respectively in Delhi. At present, petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 107.94 a litre and Rs 96.67 a litre, respectively, as per data from the Indian Oil Corporation website.
In Mumbai, petrol is retailing at Rs 113.80 per litre, the highest price till date, against Rs 113.46 on Tuesday. Citizens in the financial capital of India have to pay Rs 104.75 for a litre of diesel after a 37 paise hike over yesterday’s rate.
Motorists in Kolkata have to shell out Rs 108.45 for a litre of petrol after a 34 paise rise over Tuesday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 99.78, 35 paise more than yesterday’s price of Rs 99.43 a litre. Similarly, in Chennai, the retail price of petrol rose by 31 paise to Rs 104.83 a litre, from Rs 104.52 recorded on Tuesday. Diesel costs Rs 100.92 a litre, 33 paise more than yesterday’s price.
