Inzamam ul Haq Revealed Big Reason Behind His Resignation

The cracks in the Pakistan cricket set-up are only widening amid the senior men’s team’s floundering World Cup 2023 campaign. On Monday, former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from his role as the chief selector midway through the premier tournament.

Inzamam sent his resignation letter to Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf following Pakistan’s four-match losing streak in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

“I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media. If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector,” PCB’s statement on the development read.

PCB later on Monday evening, minutes after Inzamam resigned from his post, took to social media to announce that they have set a five-member committee to investigate the media allegations in respect of conflict of interest.

Why Inzamam resigned?

Inzamam resigned after media reports claimed the former cricketer had a stake in a player’s management company registered with the PCB. The reports further claimed that several top players including Babar and Mohammad Rizwan were associated with the company.

The veteran also reacted to his resignation. On Monday evening, he said in an interview, on SAMAA TV programme ‘Zor Ka Jor’ that he went to the board after the allegations and asked them to hold an inquiry. Following this, he decided to step down. He, however, claimed that he is willing to sit with the board after the completion of the probe.

Inzamam denied having any link with the management company for players, namely Saya Corporation. In this regard, he added, “I must tell you very clearly that such companies are recommended by the ICC and PCB has all their data.”
