Pakistan Super League 7: Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been appointed as the captain of Lahore Qalandars for the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Shaheen replaces Sohail Akhtar, who led the side in the last two editions. Under Akhtar’s captaincy, the Qalandars also played the final of PSL-V.

In what can be called a major announcement, Shaheen Afridi has been named the captain of Lahore Qalandars ahead of the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The left-arm speedster replaces Sohail Akhtar, who led the franchise in the previous edition of the competition. Reports of Shaheen getting the charge of Qalandars were doing rounds since a while. However, Atif Rana, CEO of the franchise, confirmed the developments on Monday (December 20) in a press conference.

Meanwhile, the young pacer isn’t be entirely alien with the leadership role as he was previously the deputy to Sohail Akhtar in PSL 6. It’s worth nothing that this will be Shaheen’s first-ever captaincy assignment in professional cricket and he would be raring to take Qalandars to their maiden title.
Shaheen Afridi PSL Debut
Shaheen made his PSL debut with Lahore Qalandars in 2018 and since then he has been an integral part of the team. He is the leading wicket taker for Qalandars with a total tally of 50 wickets in 37 games. He ended the year 2021 as most successful bowler in international cricket with 78 wickets across all formats.

Shaheen was equally excited on his appointment. The pace sensation said that Qalandars will continue to play exciting cricket.
“I am very excited to be named as captain of Lahore Qalandars this year. We have a very balanced side with all the bases covered, we will try our best to bring the trophy home for Lahore Qalandars’ fans this year,” he said.
