The two players helped the hosts make a comeback after losing five wickets against the Blackcaps, who started the final day on a high by picking three wickets in the first session. The hosts had begun Day 5 at 0 for 2.

They were reeling at 80 for 5 but Sarfaraz Ahmed and Saud Shakeel steadied the ship. Earlier, New Zealand declared their second innings at 277 for 5 after Tom Blundell and Michael Bracewell smashed 74 runs each. After the first innings of both the sides were over, New Zealand (449) had gained a lead of 41 runs.
