Omar Abdullah Government Presents First Bill in Jammu Kashmir Assembly

Srinagar: The elected government of Jammu and Kashmir introduced its first bill in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

Following the Question Hour, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, on behalf of Finance Minister Omar Abdullah, introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the House.

The proposed bill aims to align J&K’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) law with the recent amendments made to the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act.

The amendments are primarily regulatory in nature, intended to streamline tax regulations without imposing any recurring or non-recurring financial burden.

It marks the first legislative proposal tabled in the Assembly since the restoration of the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. Under central rule from 2018, the Parliament held the legislative authority over J&K’s laws. (KNO)
