National Scholarship Portal 2023-24 – The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the central portal to apply for state-level, centre-level, and UGC scholarship schemes. NSP registration forms are available online on the NSP scholarship portal, scholarships.gov.in. The National Scholarship Portal last date for central schemes is December 31, 2023. Students can apply for central schemes through the NSP 2.0 portal. The last date for UGC/AICTE and state schemes is also December 31, 2023.

To fulfill these mandates, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India is implementing “Scheme of Scholarships for Students with Disabilities” with following six components:

  1. Pre-matric Scholarship (For Classes IX and X
  2. Post-matric Scholarship (For Class XI to Post-Graduate Degree/Diploma) 
  3. Top Class Education (For Graduate and Post-Graduate Degree/Diploma in notified institutes of excellence in education)
  4.  National Overseas Scholarship (For Master’s Degree/Ph.D. in Institutions/Colleges/Universities abroad) 
  5. National Fellowship (For M. Phil and Ph.D. in Indian Universities) 
  6. Free Coaching (For recruitment examinations for Group A, B and C posts and entrance examinations for admission to various technical and professional courses). 

National Scholarship Portal 2024 – Different Scholarships

There are various scholarship programs for students of class 1 to Ph.D. Students can apply through the National scholarship portal registration site: scholarships.gov.in. The NSP 2023-24 is categorised into 3 different sections that are:

  1. Central Schemes

  2. UGC Schemes

  3. State Schemes

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

  • The scholarships are open only to Indian nationals.
  • All the components of scholarships are open to students with benchmark disability i.e. 40% or more disability as defined in ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and having a valid certificate of disability issued by the competent authority as prescribed under Rules.
  • Not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents will be entitled to receive benefits of the scheme. In case the second child is a twin, the scholarship under the schemes will be admissible to the twin.
  • Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, she/he would not get scholarship for that class for a second (or a subsequent) year.
  • scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend. No scholarship will be paid to the students under this scheme from the date he/she accepts any other scholarship/stipend.

Eligibility criteria will not entitle grant of scholarship due to fixed number of slots in a year

In case adequate number of female candidates are not available or not found eligible as per the terms and conditions of the scheme, the unutilized slots will be utilized by selecting suitable male candidates.

NOTE 1: Post-matric scholarships are not awarded for training courses like Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Courses and Private Pilot license Courses, Courses at Training at Ship Dufferin (Now Rajendra), Courses of training at the Military College, Dehradun, courses at Pre-examination Training Centres of all India and State levels.

NOTE 2: Income declaration of self-employed parents/guardian should be in the form of a certificate issued by Revenue Officers not below the rank of Tehsildar. Employed parents/guardians should obtain consolidated certificate from Revenue Officer for any other additional source of income.

 

REQUIREMENT OF AADHAAR AND UNIQUE DISABILITY IDENTITY CARD (UDID)

  • Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) has notified Aadhaar as an identity document under section 7 of Aadhaar Act, 2016 for all Scholarship Schemes vide Gazette Notification No. 4-2(32)/2016/DD-I dated 3rd March, 2017. Applicants may have to undergo Aadhaar based biometric authentication to avail the Scholarship.
  • UDID/UDID enrolment shall be mandatory for availing the benefits of the Scholarship scheme.

The candidate should be a regular, full time student studying in classes IX or X in a Government school or in a school recognized by the Govt. or by a Central/State Board of Secondary Education.

Steps for NSP Registration 2023-244 through National Scholarship Portal

  • Visit the official website of NSP 2.0: scholarships.gov.in

  • Look for the “New Registration” tab available on the top menu, and click on it.

  • A new NSP registration form 2024 will appear on screen.

  • After that, select the scholarship from the various schemes for which the candidate is eligible.

  • Candidates are asked to enter their name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, state of domicile, category, and bank details.

  • Then, upload a copy of the Bank Passbook in PDF or JPEG Format with size of 200KB and enter the captcha given on the right side.

  • Click on register to submit the details at National Scholarship Portal 2.0 to get a unique application number.

After this, the candidate will receive the NSP student login details like application number and password on their registered mobile number.

FAQs for applying Scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal

With a view to provide educational opportunities to students with disabilities, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has been implementing three Scholarship Schemes i.e. Pre-matric, Post-matric and Scholarship for Top Class Education for their empowerment through education.

Question 1: What are the general conditions of eligibility?

Answer: 

  • A citizen of India.
  • A person with disability having not less than 40% disability and having a disability certificate issued by the competent medical authority.
  • Not more than two disabled children of the same parents will be entitled to receive benefits of the scheme. In case if the second child is a twin, the scholarship under these schemes will be admissible to both twins.
  • Scholarship for studying in any class will be available for only one year. If a student has to repeat a class, he/she would not get scholarship for a second (or subsequent) year.
  • A scholarship holder under these schemes will not hold any other scholarship/stipend. If awarded any other scholarship/stipend, the student can exercise his/her option for either of the two scholarships/stipends, which is more beneficial to him/her and should inform the awarding authority through the Head of the Institution about the option exercised.

Question 2: For which class/course student with disability is eligible for scholarships.

Answer:

  • Pre-Matric Scheme for SwDs:- For class-IX & X in a Government school or in a school recognized by Government or by a Central/State Board of Secondary Education.
  • Post-Matric Scheme for SwDs:- For all recognized Schools/Institutions from class XI onwards to Post-graduate Degree/Diploma courses in Full time and Distance Education courses.
  • Students who after passing one stage of education are studying in the same stage of education in different subject e.g. B.Com. after B.A. in other subject will not be eligible. However, students pursuing
    L.L.B/B.Ed/B.El.Ed. after passing B.A./B.Sc./B.E. etc. are eligible for Post-matric Scholarship under this Scheme.
  • Scholarships for Top Class Education for SwDs:- Students eligible for Postgraduation Degree/Diploma in 240 notified Institutes as given in the Scheme guidelines.

Question 3 Whether students pursuing studies through correspondence/distance education are
eligible for scholarship?

Answer: SwDs are eligible only in case of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.

Question 4 What is the parental income limit to apply for the Scheme?

Answer: For Pre-Matric Scheme- The parental/guardian income from all sources should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakh per annum.
