Nocturnal gunfight breaks out in south kashmir Shopian

 

Srinagar, April 21 : A nocturnal gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces at Melhora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching GNS said that a joint team of army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege at Melhora village late Tuesday evening.

A police officer said that the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of some militants.

He said that the exchange of fire took place in the area soon after the joint team fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot.

The militants tried to break the cordon amid the exchange of fire, however, the joint team engage the militants in the gunfight.

Sources said that two to three militants of Ansar Gazwatul Hind are believed to be trapped in the area.

Meanwhile, more reinforcement has been rushed to the area by the army, reports said.

The forces have installed lights so as to prevent the escape of militant owing to darkness, they said. (GNS)
