MHA Approves Promotion of IPS Officer to Inspector General (IG) Rank

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official memorandum on January 14, 2025, approving the promotion of Shri Amit Kumar, an IPS officer of the AGMU cadre (2006 batch). Currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Shri Kumar has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG).

This promotion follows a proposal from the NIA, as referenced in their communication dated January 2, 2025. Upon assuming charge, the tenure of Shri Kumar as IG will be determined in accordance with the provisions of para 5.1(ii) of the IPS Tenure Policy.

The NIA and related offices have been directed to inform the Ministry about the date when Shri Kumar officially assumes his new position.
