Meteorological Department Forecasts Six-Day Wet Spell in Jammu & Kashmir

The Meteorological Department has announced that a series of Western Disturbances are set to affect Jammu and Kashmir from the night of January 29, leading to a six-day period of wet weather across the region.

Forecast Details:

  • January 29 (Night) to January 30 (Morning): Light rain and snow are anticipated at scattered to fairly widespread locations.
  • January 31: Isolated areas may experience light rain and snow.
  • February 1 and 2: Another spell of light rain and snow is expected at scattered to fairly widespread places, with moderate snowfall possible in some middle and higher reaches.
  • February 3: A light spell of snow is possible at scattered locations.
  • February 4 and 5: Generally cloudy conditions with chances of light rain and snow at scattered to fairly widespread places.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed any advisories issued by local authorities, especially when planning travel in hilly areas during this period.

Additionally, the Meteorological Department has noted that minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4°C at many places starting from January 29 onwards.

Currently, the region is experiencing ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the harshest 40-day winter period, which will conclude on January 29. This will be followed by ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (20 days) and ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (10 days), extending the cold conditions into February.
