Major relief to consumers, LPG cylinder becomes cheaper, check new rates here
INDIA: In a major relief to consumers, from April 1, 2021, the price of an LPG Cylinder will be less by Rs 10. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) gave the information on Wednesday. This brings down rates to Rs 809 per cylinder. The price of a gas cylinder earlier was Rs 819 per cylinder.
This is the first reduction in four months. Refill prices had gone up cumulatively by Rs 175 since December. The prices were raised four times, totalling Rs 125, since February-end. The prices were hiked first by Rs 25 per cylinder on February 4, followed by Rs 50 on February 15, Rs 25 on February 25 and again by Rs 25 on March 2.
Fuel retailers revise prices of LPG cylinders every month. The LPG prices had been increased by ₹125 per cylinder in recent weeks. The price of LPG cylinders in India is dependent primarily on two factors — the international benchmark rate of LPG and the exchange rate of US dollar and rupee.
At present, an LPG cylinder in Delhi costs 819 after three hikes since the beginning of this year. In January, the price was ₹694, which was hiked to ₹719 in February. On February 15, the price was again hiked to ₹769 to be again increased to ₹794 on February 25. In March, the price was again hiked to ₹819. In Kolkata, a cylinder costs ₹ ₹845 while in Mumbai and Chennai, the prices are ₹819 and ₹835, respectively.
