Latest Update: The water level of the Jhelum River, along with its tributaries and smaller streams, is expected to experience a rising trend until tomorrow. Although the northern and central regions may only receive light to moderate rainfall, there is a significant amount of rainfall anticipated in south Kashmir.
The precipitation levels in south Kashmir have exceeded the expectations of weather models over the past 24 hours, resulting in heavy rainfall and the breaking of some rainfall records. This situation reminds us of the 2014 floods, where an unusual interaction between a Western Disturbance and Monsoon winds led to rainfall that surpassed the predictions made by weather models.
However, it’s important to note that the current situation is not as severe as 2014, as that event was a rare occurrence with continuous rainfall over 5-7 days.
Nevertheless, this time as well, the interaction between a Western Disturbance and Monsoon winds is expected to cause higher-than-expected precipitation in the Kashmir region.
The latest forecasts from weather models suggest that most of the rainfall will be concentrated in the Jammu region. However, there is still a possibility that the rainfall will extend towards the southern parts of Kashmir.
Although there may be intermittent breaks in the rainfall, the precipitation is expected to continue until tomorrow. The water level of the Jhelum River may even exceed the Flood Declaration point, so it is crucial for people, especially those living in low-lying areas, to take precautions and stay updated with the latest information.(Kashmir Weather)
