Exams on time: Secy BOSE

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Student Alliance, which comprises class 10th and 12th students Saturday demanded the deferment of exams to month of December to get more preparation time.

As per the notification issued by the JKBOSE, the exams of 10th and 12th class would be held from 1st week of November.

The students said that initially they were told that their exams would be held from 15th November but now it’s being held from 1st week of November.

“We were expecting our exams to be held after 15th November but now yesterday all of a sudden the notification of exams was issued which is sheer injustice to us, “said Mahia Fayaz, a student. She said that their classes have been affected from last year post abrogation of Article 370, then due to the internet and now due to COVID19 lockdown.

“We are disturbed due to the present situation. We were already facing anxiety post abrogation of Article 370. We aren’t asking for time to heal but at least give us some preparation time,” said Sana, another student. The students claim that their exams are preponed for holding the panchayati elections.

“They are putting our future at stake for these elections, how can they play with our future,” Mahia said.

Though the government has given 30 percent relaxation in the syllabus but these students claim that they have only completed 20 percent of syllabus so far.

“We cannot prepare 70 percent of the syllabus. We only attended only 30 percent of our tuition classes. The students of CBSE also got relaxation and they have got a lot of time to prepare, why cannot we get the same,” said Khan Basar, another student.

He said that the 2G played a spoilsport for due to it they couldn’t attend their classes properly.
“A class lasts 40 minutes, it usually takes 20 minutes to join the class such is the internet situation here,” Sana added.

Students desire their exams to be held in winters but according to BOSE officials that’s not possible.”When we can attend the classes in winters why can’t we appear in exams at that time,”Basar added.

However according to Secretary JKBOSE, Manisha Sarin it is not possible to conduct exams in winters.
“How can students living in far flung areas, which get cut off due to snow, appear in exams during winters. Besides that it gets difficult to collect and bring the papers from centres.”

While talking about deferment of exams she said that exams would be conducted on said dates only.”Students should make up their minds to appear in exams as there won’t be any deferment. They should think about their one academic year which can go waste if they won’t appear in exams.”

She also added that they have written that schools have completed 80 percent of the syllabus and as per routine exams are held in the first week of November only.(Rising Kashmir)
