According to the circular, career counselling is an essential part of school education as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. However, many students select their academic streams under the influence of peer pressure, parental expectations, or societal trends rather than their own interests and abilities. This often leads to a lack of interest in studies and career confusion.

Objectives of the Counselling Workshops:

  1. Introduce students to the available streams after Class 10, including Medical, Non-Medical, Commerce, Humanities, and Vocational courses.
  2. Provide insights into career opportunities linked to each stream.
  3. Discuss entrance exams and skill-based courses available to students.
  4. Address queries and offer personalized career guidance.

These workshops are mandatory for Class 10 students, and parents are encouraged to participate. Schools are advised to conduct these sessions effectively with the help of existing career helpdesks. A detailed career presentation is also available on the DSEJ website for further guidance.

The Chief Education Officers (CEOs) will monitor the workshops and submit a consolidated report to the Directorate. This initiative aims to help students make well-informed career choices, reducing academic stress and confusion.
