JK Government Extends Financial Assistance for West Pakistani Refugees Until 2026
Srinagar, April 4, 2025 – The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the extension of financial assistance to West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs) settled in the Union Territory. The scheme, which was initially set to end on March 31, 2025, has now been extended for another year until March 31, 2026.

This decision follows approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, conveyed through a communication dated March 21, 2025. The financial assistance is part of a Rehabilitation Package first approved by the Cabinet on November 30, 2016 and later extended multiple times.
The J&K Government adopted this scheme in 2018 to support 5,764 WPR families in the region. With this latest extension, financial aid will continue within the sanctioned budget of ₹317.02 crore, ensuring support until the final sunset date of March 31, 2026. The government has also clarified that the scheme will not be extended beyond this deadline.
