Israel-Hamas war: US has absolutely no intention of sending troops to Israel or Gaza, says Kamala Harris
United States vice president Kamala Harris stressed that Washington has “absolutely no intention” of sending troops to Israel or Gaza amid the ongoing conflict, CNN reported on Sunday. “We have absolutely no intention, nor do we have any plans, to send combat troops into Israel or Gaza, period,” Harris said in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” that aired on Sunday when asked about the potential for US troops to be drawn into a war in the region.
Harris, who has been engaged in discussions and phone conversations concerning the Middle East crisis, expressed full support for the government’s plans. Harris said that she supports Israel’s right to defend itself while also advocating for the protection of civilians

Staunch US ally Jordan asked Washington to deploy Patriot air defence systems to bolster its border defence at a time of heightened regional tensions and conflict, the spokesperson for the country’s army said on Sunday. Jordan has been increasingly nervous that Israel’s relentless bombing of Gaza since a deadly assault on Israel by Hamas from the enclave on October 7 could also spread into a wider conflagration.
Israel Hamas war: IDF carries out airstrikes in southern Syria in response to rocket fire
The Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes at multiple sites in southern Syria in response to rocket fire on the Golan Heights hours earlier, Times of Israel reported in the early hours of Monday. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it struck launchers responsible for the cross-border fire.
“In response to the launches: the IDF attacked the launchers from which the launches were carried out from Syrian territory. An IDF fighter jet attacked a short time ago the launchers from which the launches were made from Syrian territory towards Israeli territory last night,” IDF posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Tens of thousands drinking salty, contaminated water: Report
An internal US State Department document has provided details on the tens of thousands of people in Gaza drinking salty and contaminated water, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.
The State Department reportedly found that some 52,000 pregnant women and more than 30,000 babies below six months of age have been forced to drink salty or contaminated water in Gaza, Haaretz reported.
Israel has cut off vital services needed for the people of Gaza to access water, including electricity and fuel needed for desalination and to operate water pumps.
Water shortages are causing the threat of infectious diseases, health workers have warned.
UN says at least 33 aid trucks entered Gaza on Sunday
The UN’s humanitarian organisation, OCHA, has announced that 33 trucks carrying water, food and medical supplies entered Gaza on Sunday through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
“This is the largest delivery of humanitarian aid since 21 October, when limited deliveries resumed,” OCHA said early on Monday.
No fuel deliveries, however, have been made despite pleas from hospitals, which have been mostly operating on power generators after electricity to the territory was cut down by Israel.
To date, 117 trucks have entered Gaza through the crossing since limited deliveries resumed to the crowded Palestinian territory of more than 2.3 million people, according to the AFP news agency.
Before the siege, some 500 trucks carrying aid and other goods entered Gaza every day.
Israel-Hamas war: 60 detained after unrest at Russia’s Dagestan airport
Sixty people were detained after hundreds of anti-Israel protesters stormed an airport in Russia’s predominantly Muslim Dagestan region on Sunday, the RIA news agency reported on Monday. RIA said the identity of 150 of what it called the most active protesters had been identified. It said nine police officers had received injuries in the incident, two of whom were being treated in hospital. The protesters stormed the airport on Sunday, where a plane from Israel had just arrived, forcing security forces to close the airport and remove the demonstrators.
