Deployment of USS Gerald Ford a ‘deliberate show’ of American might
The United States is sending multiple military ships and aircraft closer to Israel, in a deliberate to show of force to its closest ally in the region, said Al Jazeera’s John Hendren, who is reporting from Washington DC.
The US aircraft Gerald Ford, named after the 38th US president, will lead the US deployment, according to our correspondent. It is the largest aircraft carrier in the world to date.
“This deliberately high profile and ostentatious display of American military might…is designed to show visible support for Israel,” he said.
We are ‘living another Nakba’
As the conflict entered its third day, Ahmed Al Khalidi, a Palestinian father, was forced to seek refuge in a school. He told Al Jazeera that people in Gaza “are living another Nakba”.
Like many others, Ahmed mourns the loss of his family house, which was destroyed by an Israeli attack.
“Surviving the attack on our home may seem fortunate, but our lives are forever changed, haunted by the images of our beloved place and memories being reduced to rubble.”
The Nakba, or catastrophe, refers to the mass displacement of Palestinians in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war that made way for the creation of the state of Israel.
Situation in Israel’s Sderot ‘still very tense’
Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford, who is reporting from Israel’s Ashdod, says the situation near the fence with Gaza is “still very tense”.
Stratford said that the latest statement coming from the Israeli military, saying that it has taken full control of the entire border area “might not be strictly true”.
“The situation is still very fluid despite the statement made by the military,” he said, noting that near where he was reporting in Sderot, he could still hear sounds of explosion and see Israeli military personnel taking their positions and lying in nearby grassy vegetation, guarding against potential Hamas fighters.

Israel-Palestine war: Why $6 billion US-Iran deal is in spotlight after Hamas attack on Israel
The US-Iran deal is a prisoner swap agreement that was approved by President Joe Biden in September 2023. Under this deal, five US citizens detained by Iran were allowed to leave the country in exchange for the transfer of $6 billion in Iranian funds that had been frozen in South Korea. At the same time, five Iranians held in the United States were also allowed to leave. The $6 billion was Iranian money that had been blocked in South Korean banks after former President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil exports and banking sector in 2019. The deal is in the spotlight after Hamas, a Palestinian militant group that is backed by Iran, launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Israel-Hamas war: Protesters in New York blame Israel for Hamas terror attack
On Sunday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in New York City to express support for the Palestinians following an attack by Hamas on Israel. The Hamas militants had launched a barrage of missiles at Israel and invaded towns along the Gaza border, resulting in a tragic loss of life and prompting Israel to declare war against the Iran-backed group. A devastating toll of at least 700 lives lost in Israel, a scale of tragedy not witnessed in the country for decades, has been reported. Additionally, over 400 casualties have been reported in Gaza. Palestinian militant groups have claimed to be holding over 130 captives from the Israeli side. Even after more than 48 hours since the unprecedented incursion by Hamas out of Gaza, Israeli forces were still engaged in battles with militants entrenched in various locations.
