Iran launched more than 200 drones and missiles at Israel in an unprecedented attack late Saturday, the Israeli army announced, in a major escalation of the long-running covert war between the regional foes.

Iran’s proxies and allies also carried out coordinated attacks on Israeli positions as sirens sounded in many places and AFP correspondents heard blasts in the skies above Jerusalem early Sunday.

Iran had repeatedly threatened to retaliate against Israel for a deadly April 1 air strike on its Damascus consular annexe, and Washington had warned repeatedly in recent days that the reprisals were imminent.

The Indian embassy in Israel on Sunday issued an advisory to Indian citizens in Israel to stay calm and adhere to the safety protocols issued by the local authorities. The embassy further highlighted that they are closely monitoring the situation and are in touch with the Israeli authorities.

“In light of recent events in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to stay calm and adhere to the safety protocols issued by the local authorities (https://www.oref.org.il/en),” the Indian embassy in Israel said in a statement. Moreover, the Indian Embassy is also in touch with members of the Indian community to ensure the safety of Indian citizens.

“Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with the Israeli authorities and Indian community members to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” it added. The embassy further mentioned an emergency helpline number for Indian citizens in Israel. “For any urgent assistance, please contact the Embassy at: 24*7 Emergency Helpline/ContactTel: 1. +972-547520711, +972-543278392. Email: cons1.telaviv@mea.gov.in,” it stated.

Iran, on Saturday, attacked Israel with more than 200 projectiles, in response to an attack on its consulate in Syria. Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, earlier this week, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a travel advisory to Indian citizens on Friday and asked them to refrain from travelling to both countries until further notice. The ministry further asked people who are currently in Iran or Israel to contact Indian embassies and register themselves.

Iran’s Raisi vows ‘stronger response’ to any Israeli move

Iran President Ebrahim Raisi warned Israel and its allies against any “reckless” actions after Tehran’s drone and missile attack in retaliation for a deadly strike on its Damascus consulate. “If the Zionist regime (Israel) or its supporters demonstrate reckless behavior, they will receive a decisive and much stronger response,” Raisi said.

Iran Launched Over 300 Drones, Missiles: Israel

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles towards Israel in its unprecedented attack overnight, injuring at least 12 people, an Israeli army spokesman said Sunday.
“Last night Iran fired over 300 ballistic missiles, UAVs and cruise missiles towards Israel,” military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a televised statement, revising an earlier figure of more than 200 launches.
Hagari said 170 drones and 30 cruise missiles were launched, none of which entered Israeli territory, adding that 110 ballistic missiles were also fired and few of them reached Israel.

G7 Leaders To Discuss Iranian Strikes On Israel

Leaders from the G7 will hold a video conference later Sunday to discuss the Iranian strikes on Israel, Italy — which holds the rotating presidency of the group of developed nations — said.
“The Italian presidency of the G7 has summoned G7 leaders for a video conference early this afternoon”, the government said. The G7 groups the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Canada.

Iran’s Unprecedented Attack “Foiled”: Israel

Iran’s unprecedented overnight attack on Israel has been “foiled”, the Israeli military said Sunday, with hundreds of missiles and drones intercepted with the help of the United States and allies.
The attack which began late Saturday marks a major escalation of the long-running covert war between the regional foes, and comes against the backdrop of the ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
