India reports highest ever spike in Covid-19 cases, deaths in last 24 hours

India, April 28 (KN): Amid a worsening COVID-19 situation in the country, India reported the highest ever daily spike of coronavirus infections. In the last 24 hours nearly 3.63 lakh new cases have been reported and more than 3200 deaths.

The health infrastructure of the India is under stress due to the surge in cases and the shortage of medical oxygen.

As per available data from covid19india.org, an independent aggregator of daily COVID-19 figures, India reports 3,62,757 new Covid cases and 3,285 deaths during 24 hours.

The alarming numbers of single-day cases as well as the fatalities smashed all previous record of coronavirus cases in India since the disease struck the country in January last year.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state in India . Maharashtra reported 66,368 infections on April 27, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 32,912 new infections and Delhi with 24,149 new cases.

Also, Kerala reported 32,819 new infections on April 27 and Karnataka 31,830.

Further, International efforts are under way to help India as the country suffers critical oxygen shortages amid a devastating surge in Covid cases.(KN)
