Lunar Calculations and Moon Sighting

Eid-ul-Fitr is observed on the 1st of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The sighting of the new moon (hilal) determines the exact date. According to astronomical data, the crescent moon is expected to be easily visible in various parts of India and Pakistan on the evening of 30th March after Maghrib prayer. This suggests that Eid will most likely be on 31st March 2025.

Global and Regional Possibilities

  • Saudi Arabia and the Middle East are also expected to celebrate Eid on 31st March, as the moon sighting conditions are favorable there as well.
  • Other countries that follow local moon sightings may also observe Eid on the same day, though some variations could occur.

Final Confirmation Depends on Moon Sighting Committees

Despite strong astronomical predictions, the final confirmation will come from official moon sighting committees in India and Pakistan. Religious scholars and experts will assess the reports from different regions before making an official announcement.
