HSRP Number Plates Mandatory For J&K Vehicles: What is HSRP Number Plate? Know Benefits, Purchase Price, Online Application Here

Vehicles sold in India after April 2019 come with high security number plates from the dealer’s end and the cost of HSRP is included in the price of the vehicle. But for the vehicles sold before April 2019, vehicle owners will have to contact automobile dealership or government authorized HSRP vendors and pay a marginal amount to obtain a high security registration plate.

HSRP:

HSRP is an aluminum-made “high-security registration plate”  which is fixed on a vehicle using two non-reusable locks.  A chromium-based hologram of Ashoka Chakra of 20 mm x 20 mm size is applied by hot stamping on the top left-hand corner of the plate in both front and rear plates to protect against counterfeiting.

The permanent identification number (PIN) of a minimum of 10 digits is laser branded into the reflective sheeting on the bottom left-hand side of the registration plate with a letter size of 5 mm. The HSRP is linked electronically to the vehicle after its affixture on the vehicle on registration.

Benefits of HSRP:

  1. The conventional and old number plates are very easy to tamper with and can be changed quite easily. Usually, the first thing most thieves do after stealing a vehicle is to replace the registration plate, making it difficult for the police and authorities to track that stolen vehicle. But HSRP’s come with non-removable snap-on locks and are difficult to replace.
  2. HSRP’s are affixed by automobile dealers and private vendors approved by the state authorities. These plates are issued only after the vehicle owner provides with information like engine number, chassis number, etc. This is a crucial step in preventing counterfeiting of high security registration plates.
  3. Another benefit of HSRP is that the details of a car, like engine number, chassis number, etc. are stored in a centralized database. This information, along with the 10-digit PIN, helps the authorities to identify a stolen vehicle.
  4. Some vehicle owners use different font and styles for the registration plates, making it difficult for the traffic police to comprehend the registration number of a vehicle. However, the HSRPs have a uniform pattern of displaying motor vehicle registration number, therefore addressing the issue of ‘incomprehensible’ vehicle registration plates.

HSRP instalation cost:

The cost of HSRP varies from state to state. On average, the HSRP costs around Rs 400 for two-wheelers, and up to Rs 1,100 for four-wheelers, depending on the category.

How to get HSRP number plates?

According to the government’s directive, vehicles sold after April 2019 will come with HSRP. The dealer provides the plate and the cost will be included in the price of the vehicle.

Those having vehicles registered before April 2019 need to contact automobile dealers or government authorized HSRP vendors to obtain HSRP. They will require to pay a marginal amount.
