Forces launch Cordon and search operation in Sopore

Sopore, May 24 : Amid inputs about the presence of militants, the government forces have launched a cordon and search operation at old town area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on this evening.

Official sources told Kashmir Despatch that the contingents of army’s 22 RR, 179 CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned off Jamia Masjid area of Sopore.

The forces conducted house to house searches in the area and sealed whole area sources added.

A police official while confirming the cordon-and-search operation in the area said that following inputs about the presence of suspecious movement in the area searches were launched.

The area continues to be under forces’ siege and there was no exchange of gunfire when this report was being filed.
