A fresh spell of moderate to very heavy rain is expected from today morning. The main activity of the weather system will be today evening and the maximum influence will be over some parts of north Kashmir and Jammu region and at a few places of south Kashmir.
Rain/Thundershower spells are expected on Eid day as well, albeit with reduced intensity. Day temperature, particularly on 20th is likely to stay 8 – 16°C below the normal.
Day temperature in the plains of Kashmir will stay in the range 16 – 24°C. There will be chances of light snowfall over higher reaches (situated above 3500m) including Zojila and Peer ki Gali.
In view of the forecast:
1. Rise in the water level of rivers/nallahs/streams/lakes is expected.
2. Landslides are possible in the vulnerable areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
3. Flash flooding in the vulnerable areas.
4. Shutting of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to landslides/shooting stones.
5. Risk of Cloudbursts/Mini-cloudbursts at one or two places.
6. Further Fall in day temperature by 4 – 12°C.
7. Risk of cloud to ground lightning strikes.
8. Wet weather may make grounds unsuitable for Eid prayers.

Central Kashmir: 35 – 200mm
North Kashmir: 50 – 220mm
South Kashmir: 30 – 210mm
Jammu region: 40 – 350mm
J&K may surpass its monthly average rainfall for the month of July by tomorrow evening.
Large Excess rainfall in the range 500 – 2200% is expected between 20 – 21 July (Percentage departure from normal value)
