Contractual College Lecturers in Jammu & Kashmir Demand Fair Wages, Job Security
Srinagar, Mar 24 : Contractual college lecturers in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their demands for better wages, job security, and uninterrupted service in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
Seeking a salary hike, inclusion of winter and summer breaks in their pay structure, and protection from arbitrary contract disruptions, the lecturers have urged the government to address their longstanding grievances.
Despite playing a crucial role in higher education, the lecturers lament that they continue to face financial instability due to inadequate salaries and irregular contracts.
“Many of us hold PhDs and have cleared NET/SET, yet we are paid significantly less than UGC-prescribed standards. Additionally, we receive no salary during winter and summer breaks, making it difficult to sustain ourselves,” said a protesting lecturer from a Srinagar college.
The lecturers have called on the authorities to ensure fair compensation and service continuity, warning that prolonged neglect of their issues could impact the quality of higher education in the region. [KNT]
