Locals told that two months back, Jal-Shakti division Bandipora procured the water pipes under PRI grants and handed over the same to Sarpanchs.
“One Sarpanch was handed over more than a hundred pipes. We have 5 panchayat halqas in Ajas that means more than 500 hundred water pipes were provided to Sarpanchs & their sub-ordinate panchs in Ajas,” one of the locals said, adding “These water pipes were supposed to be given to poor & downtrodden who needed them the most for tap water connection and were supposed to be installed in the places with high demand, but to our utter shock all the pipes are missing and not even a single pipe has been installed.”
Locals alleged that the concerned Sarpanchs and panchs sold all the pipes and filled their pockets with the local Jal-Shakti employees in complete hand in glove with them.
Meanwhile, locals have written a letter to Executive Engineer Jal-Shakti division Bandipora seeking whereabouts of the pipes.
They have personally sought intervention of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Chief Engineer Jal-Shakti to probe the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
On being contacted by CNS, DC Bandipora, Dr. Owais said that he will inquire the matter and take appropriate action suitable under law if those accused found guilty.
Executive Engineer, Jal-Shakti division Bandipora told CNS that a 3-member-committee has been already constituted who have been tasked to probe the allegations.
“We can decide future course of action only after getting inquiry report, he added. (CNS)
