India vs Pakistan Highlights, Asia Cup 2023: Play called off due to rain in Colombo; Match moved to reserve day

Rain has pushed the Asia Cup Super Four game between India and Pakistan into a reserve day. The contest is scheduled to resume as a full 50-overs-a-side match with India 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs.

India made a bright start to the game with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scoring half-centuries at better than a run a ball in an opening stand of 121. Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled an expensive first spell while Naseem Shah was luckless at the other end, beating Rohit’s bat repeatedly with outswing and extra bounce.

Pakistan recovered some control by dismissing both openers within eight balls of each other – with Shaheen returning after going off the field with an injured finger to get Gill with a slower ball – before rain arrived with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease.

There is more rain forecast in Colombo on Monday. If the match does resume, India could end up playing on three successive days, with their Super Four match against Sri Lanka scheduled for Tuesday.

Well, in that case, the match would have to be called off, just like it happened in the group stage of this competition. Both India and Pakistan would be awarded a point each if that happens. With this, Pakistan would remain in the top spot on the Super Four standings with three points while India would open their account with 1 point. There remains a chance for such an outcome as similar weather is predicted for September 12 as well.
