Army Helicopter Crash in Tamil Nadu, 13 Confirmed Dead, Live Update Regarding CDS Gen Bipin Rawat

IAF Helicopter Crash Live Updates: Chopper with CDS Bipin Rawat on board crashes in Ooty.

14 people – five crew and nine passengers – were on board the Air Force’s Mi-17V5 helicopter. The Air Force has confirmed General Rawat was on board. There is no confirmation on his condition at this time. Rescue operation is still on with local police and the Army.

13 of the 14 personnel involved in the IAF chopper crash in Tamil Nadu have been confirmed dead. Identities of the bodies to be confirmed through DNA testing, says news agency ANI quoting sources.

An Air Force chopper carrying Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife, and several of his staff members, including his Defence Assistant, security commandos and other Air Force personnel, crashed at 12.20 pm in the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu.

Mamata stops review meeting midway after learning about chopper crash
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ended midway an administrative review meeting on Monday as soon as she came to know that an army chopper, with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat on board, crashed in Tamil Nadu.

 

“We have received sad news. I am shocked. I have no words to express my grief. I am ending this meeting,” she said and left the venue of the meeting in Malda. Banerjee, on a four-day administrative tour of the state, is scheduled to conduct several review meetings. (PTI)
