7th Pay Commission: State announces Diwali bonus for govt employees, 3 lakh staff to benefit
In a significant move to support state employees during the festive season, TN Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a Diwali bonus for Grade C and D employees across all public sector organizations. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 2.75 lakh workers and will cost the state government around Rs 369.65 crore.

Bonus Details
- Profit-Making PSUs: Employees will receive a 20% bonus.
- Loss-Making PSUs: Employees will receive a 10% bonus.
Specific Boards:
- Employees in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Chennai Water Supply and Sewerage Board will receive a 10% bonus.
- Employees in the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Supply Board will receive an 8.3% bonus.
- Temporary Workers: Those working in the Tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Trading Corporation will receive a gratuity of Rs 3,000
Financial Implications
The bonuses will range from a minimum of Rs 8,400 to a maximum of Rs 16,800 for government employees. This financial support is part of the government’s recognition of the hard work and contributions of skilled workers, which are vital for Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a leading manufacturing hub in India, aiming for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
This announcement not only aims to motivate employees but also acknowledges their crucial role in driving the state’s economic progress.
