Kerala Landslide: Death Toll Rises to 63, Total of 116 Injuries Reported so far; Centre Announces Financial aid to kin of Victims
At least 63 people, including children are killed, while hundreds are feared trapped after massive landslides struck the hilly areas in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday (July 30).
Two massive landslides struck the area at around 2 am. About two hours later, close to 4.10 am, the Wayanad district was struck by another landslide.
Members of Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) in Parliament today called for the massive landslides, which have claimed 63 livestill now , to be declared a national disaster.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and assured all help to the state government.
The PM also asked BJP chief JP Nadda to make sure that party workers extend support in rescue work. The Prime Minister has also spoken to Union Minister Suresh Gopi, BJP’s lone Kerala MP, in this regard.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed in the calamity. Those injured would be given ₹ 50,000 each.

Health Minister Veena George visits Health Department Directorate, reviews arrangements
Kerala Health Minister Veena George visited the Health Department Directorate to review the current arrangements. She provided a detailed update on the situation and instructed precise monitoring of available hospital beds in the affected areas. Minister George suggested setting up temporary hospitals if necessary and stressed the importance of evaluating mortuary systems, including deploying mobile mortuaries. She also assessed the operations of the 24/7 control room, which will provide support to health workers and the public throughout the crisis, according to the Kerala Health Minister’s Office.
MK Stalin sanctions Rs 5 crore for Kerala from CM Relief Fund
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has also sanctioned Rs 5 crore from the CM General Fund for relief measures in Kerala. Additionally, a team of 20 firefighters from the Fire Rescue Department, led by its Joint Director, 20 personnel from the State Disaster Management Authority, headed by a Superintendent of Police, and a medical team of 10 doctors and nurses are being deployed to Kerala today to assist with the rescue and relief operations.
200 Indian army personnel, 30 Navy swimmers join rescue ops
A team of 200 Indian Army personnel has been dispatched to the landslide-affected region from Kannur. Additionally, 30 specialist swimmers from the Indian Navy are being deployed, and two Indian Air Force helicopters are engaged in search and rescue operations.
