The strong earthquake that slammed Morocco’s High Atlas mountain on Friday night destroyed houses and forced residents to evacuate their homes, killing around 820 people. The magnitude 7.2 earthquake that occurred late at night in injured at least 672 people, with 205 of them in critical condition.
The 12-century Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech, one of the city’s most renowned buildings, reportedly sustained damage, though the degree was not immediately known, according to Moroccan media, according to Reuters. The “roof of Marrakech” is its 69-meter (226-foot) minaret.
