Asia Cup 2023: BIG Injury Scare For Babar Azam’s Side Ahead Of India Clash

India will meet arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2023 opener on Saturday. In a little respite for the Men in Blue, as Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi could miss the game against India that is set to take place in two days time. This is certainly not good news for Pakistani fans who would love to see Afridi bowl against the star batters of India.

The pacer looked concerned during Pakistan’s opening clash against Nepal on Wednesday in Multan. Afridi bowled merely five overs in the game picking up two wickets. He was then seen leaving the field after speaking to the physio near the boundary ropes, and the episode did raise major concerns for the fans ahead of clash against India.

“If there’s a problem with Afridi, they shouuld take him off. He’s a valuable asset for the Pakistan side,” Andy Flower said on-air.

Meanwhile, Waqar Younis, who was also commentating, said that the young pacer being surrounded by doctor and physio is not a good sign.

“I don’t mind physio around a fast bowler at third man or fine leg. But when the doctor comes, that’s when it gets a little worrying. Shaheen has both of them around him,” said Waqar.

The India-Pakistan clash will take place in Sri Lanka, which is the co-host of the tournament. The Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy will host the clash, which will be the first game of the tournament for Rohit Sharma & Co. India will later face Nepal on September 4 at the same venue.

Shaheen Afridi missed Asia Cup 2022 with a knee injury. He could only bowl 2.1 overs in the T20 World Cup 2022 final against England. But with Asia Cup 2023 a crucial tournament ahead of World Cup 2023, Pakistan need their star pacer to be 100% fitness.
