ODI World Cup 2023: Bad News For West Indies Men’s Cricket Team- Know Details

West Indies have failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 after losing to Scotland in the Super Six stage of the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Only the two finalists of that tournament make it to the World Cup in India later this year, and West Indies now can’t reach the final.

They were champions of the first two World Cups in 1975 and 1979, and runners-up in 1983; the 13th edition of the competition will be the first without the team from the Caribbean.

On July 1, the West Indies once again produced a dismal show with the bat and Scotland showed no qualms in knocking off the target to win with seven wickets in hand and 6.3 overs to spare and pile up further ignominy on the two-time world champions.

This game was a must-win for the West Indies but after being put into bat, they could manage just 181 in 43.5 overs. Their top scorer was Jason Holder who made 45 off 79 balls at No.7. Scotland’s star of the day was medium pacer Brandon McMullen. With three wickets and 69 off 106 when batting at No.3, McMullen provided the all-round quality Scotland needed. They chased down the target in 43.3 overs to send the Windies spiraling down and out of the World Cup.

West Indies did have four points having earlier beaten the USA (by 35 runs) and Nepal (101 runs), but the wheels came off rapidly owing to poor cricket across departments.

But since they lost to both Zimbabwe and the Netherlands — who both qualified for the Super Six from Group A — the West Indies carried no points further.
