Asia Cup dispute

It has been noted that two weeks ago, Jay Shah announced that the council was still awaiting feedback from the countries involved in the tournament before making a final decision about the venue for the Asia Cup.

Shah said,“We are awaiting feedback from other nations to finalise the venue for the 2023 Asia Cup and clarity on the India-Pakistan match.”

Meanwhile, BCCI is reportedly ready for the possibility of the Asia Cup being cancelled. In surprise it was announced that they are planning a new tournament featuring five nations that could fill the gap left by the cancellation of the Asia Cup.

Will the tournament be cancelled?

The Pakistan Cricket Board has remained firm on its stand to host the tournament in its home country. Looking at this, the tournament (Asia Cup 2023) is likely to be cancelled. Keeping this in mind, reports say that the BCCI is preparing for the five-nation tournament. It seems to be performed in an empty window. But there is no official clarification on this.

Pakistan were chosen as the host of the Asia Cup

Pakistan were chosen as the host of the Asia Cup but Team India have stuck to their guns about not sending a team to Pakistan for the event due to the political tensions between the two countries.

The initial plans were that of a hybrid model for the upcoming edition of the tournament, but the idea of the same was quashed by their new president Najam Sethi.

PCB is also concerned about public reaction over the complete transfer of the event to the UAE. The suggestion of hosting the event in another country has already been rejected. If the Asia Cup does not take place this year, it may also affect Pakistan’s preparations for the 2023 World Cup in India.
