Glenn Phillips pulled off what could be a strong contender for ‘Catch of the Tournament’ in the very first game of the T20 World Cup Super 12s stage in Sydney on Saturday.Phillips stretched body across to pull off a Superman-like grab near the cover boundary to dismiss Marcus Stoinis, who went for a inside-out heave off left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner’s bowling.
It was in the 9th over when Marcus Stoinis was looking to put the pressure back on left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner after Australia had lost early wickets in pursuit of a massive total of 201. Stoinis played an inside-out shot in a bid to get a boundary through covers but Phillips foiled his plans with a stunning catch.
Phillips, who is known to be one of the finest fielders in the modern era, has taken some blinders in the past but to do it in front of a packed crowd in Sydney in their T20 World Cup opener was showmanship at its best.

Australia lose first white-ball game at home to New Zealand in 13 years.
Defending champions Australia started their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with an 89-run loss to New Zealand, their first defeat at home to their arch-rivals since February 2009 in white-ball cricket.
Kiwis had last won a white-ball game, a One Day International (ODI) against Australia during Chappell Hadlee Trophy in February 2009. They had to wait for more than 13 years to register their next win against the Aussies in white-ball cricket in Australia.
