Seventh Pay Commission: Bumper Salary Hike! As Government Employees To Get Another Increase In DA – Know Here How Much Salary Will Increase

Government employees are likely to get some good news from the government with regard to an increment in their salaries after hike the dearness allowance (DA) of employees in next month, With the hike in the DA, the in-hand salaries of the government are all set to increase.

According to the media reports, the big update on the DA hike could come in July 2022, bringing cheer to central government employees. Besides the DA for central government employees, the government could also increase dearness relief for lakhs of central government pensioners.

Media reports said there could be another four percent hike in DA. Now, the total DA could reach from 34 to 38 percent. The employees must know that the Dearness Allowance is revised twice a year. The first is given from January to June, while the second comes from July to December.

The Centre had on March 30 this year hiked Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) by 3 percent to 34 percent to compensate for the price rise, benefitting over 1.16 crore central government employees and pensioners. The DA is increased for the government employees in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

At present, the DA of the employees stands at 34 percent. However, after the hike, their DA will increase to 38 percent. If the DA is increased, then there will be a pay hike which will range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 27,000, depending on the basic salary of the employees.

How Much Salary Will Increase After DA Hike?

After the latest reported hike, central government employees will get a 38 per cent Dearness Allowance calculated by multiplying the current rate of DA by the base salary of the employee. Let us say that this calculation is done against the salary of an employee whose basic pay is Rs 18,000. At the rate of 31 per cent DA currently, the employee is getting DA of Rs 6,120. If the latest DA hike in July is implemented at 4 per cent, the employee will get DA of Rs 6,840. This means that an increase of Rs 720 will been made after the latest DA hike.

The government hikes DA every year in January and July to set off inflation. Therefore, since the retail inflation is at a years-high, the chances of a hike in dearness allowance are also strong. The CPI-based inflation in April stood at an eight-year high of 7.79 per cent.

How Is the DA Hike Calculated?

The DA hike is usually based on All-India Consumer Price Index (AICPI). In the months of January, February and March 2022, AICPI stood at 125.1, 125 and 126, respectively. According to media reports, if the AICPI remains more than 126 in April, May and June, the government could increase the DA by 4%. The AICPI numbers for the months of April, May and June are yet to come.

It must be noted that Dearness Allowance varies from employee to employee based on whether they work in urban sector, semi-urban sector or the rural sector. At the moment, central government employees get a DA of 34 per cent, which was increased in January by 3 per cent from 31 per cent earlier.
