The Narendra Modi led central government has once again increased the dearness allowance (DA) for employees of central government and central autonomous bodies. The revised DA rates were released by the Department of Expenditure of the Finance Ministry. All the employees who were drawing their salary in the pre-revised pay scale as per the 5th, 6th and 7th Pay Commission will get revised DA from January 1, 2022.

All central government employees who were drawing their pay under the 7th Pay Commission must note that the DA has been increased by 3 per cent. These employees can now get dearness allowance of nearly 34 per cent of their basic pay.

The employees who have been receiving salary as per the 6th Pay Commission will now get a DA of 203 per cent. Also, those who get pay as per the 5th Pay Commission will get a DA hike to about 381 per cent.

After this announcement by the Department of Expenditure of the Finance Ministry, about 47.68 lakh central government employees will be getting the benefit from this move. More than 67 lakh pensioners will come under this hike.

7th Pay Commission: After increasing the dearness allowance of central employees, now it is going to start in the states. First of all, dearness allowance (DA payment) can be paid in Uttar Pradesh. 16 lakh employees and 12 lakh retired pensioners of Uttar Pradesh can get new Dearness Allowance (DA Hike) in May 2022. Dearness allowance (DA Hike) is to be increased by 3 percent. The state government has started preparations for the DA hike. Employees will get the benefit of Dearness Allowance (DA) from the month of May itself.

DA’s gift is given twice

Employees get DA twice a year. According to the rules, the first dearness allowance is implemented in January and the second time in July. But, even after the announcement by the Center, it is implemented with delay at the state level. Employees’ unions and pensioners have protested on this many times. Along with this, an appeal has also been made that they should also get the benefit of increased dearness allowance along with the center.

Amid the recent hike in DA (Dearness Allowance) lakhs of Central Government employees/ pensioners are eagerly waiting for their stalled Dearness Relief (DR) to be released. The Central government employees/ pensioners had urged the Union government to release the dearness relief that was held back during the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees are expecting the Centre to disburse the DR into their accounts after it was hiked along with DA recently. However, recently, reports claimed that the Central government will not clear the DR.

Here’s what the Centre has said on DR release

As per a Hindustan Times report, the central government has turned down the pensioners‘ request to release the dearness relief. The report states that in the 32nd meeting of standing committee of voluntary agencies for review and rationalisation of pension rules held on Monday and chaired by Union Minister for Pensioners Welfare Jitendra Singh, “representative of the Department of Expenditure (DoE) specified that the amount of DAs and DRs that had been frozen would not be restored.”

Central public sector employees: Dearness Allowance % = ((Average of All-India Consumer Price Index (Base Year 2001=100) for the past 3 months -126.33)/126.33)*100
